Kathryn Sol “The Art of Sol”
Kat initially studied sculpture with Stu Chalupski, Willamette Valley artist and teacher, until her passion was interrupted by a hand injury. Her art has since found expression primarily in poetry. She recently found a new love in color and fabric. She writes:
In the constant, grander scheme of dreams and their offspring
I come to art
in and through meditative endeavor.
Now mistress to the mysteries of fiber art –
the thoughts that go in,
and the the vision that unfolds,
I wrangle the medium like any cowgirl might
until I corral that mediation
between the free-flowing nature of the color
and the accepting arms of the fiber.
The art and I wrestle less these days,
meeting amicably in the continuum
of the untouched and the all-encompassing,
filling in spaces where we may.
